Is builder gel right for your nails?
Builder gel works on your own nails, at the length they are or a little longer. It suits you if one of these sounds like yours.
For long nails, an acrylic full set or soft gel extensions hold the length better. If your nails only need help staying in one piece, a rubber base manicure is thinner and adds no length.

A Builder Gel Manicure is one appointment, from bare nails to finished. This is the order of it.
Prep
Your nails are filed to shape, the cuticles are cleaned up and the surface is lightly buffed, so the gel has something to hold on to.
A base layer
A thin first coat of gel goes on and sets under the lamp.
The build
The builder gel goes on in a thicker layer and is shaped into a gentle curve where the nail takes the most stress. Any length you want is added here. It sets under the lamp again.
Shape and finish
The surface is filed smooth and the edges shaped. Then colour if you want it, a top coat, and cuticle oil to finish.

What do I book when it grows out?
The Builder Gel Manicure again. The grown-out gel is filed back, the curve is rebuilt where it belongs, and the nail is finished as new, in the same appointment.
Are builder gel nails hard to remove?
Not when the salon removes them. Most of the gel is filed away, and the last thin layer is removed without filing into your own nail. Don’t peel it off: peeling takes layers of your own nail with it.
Is builder gel the same as regular gel?
No. Regular gel is a thin coat of colour. Builder gel is thicker and is shaped into a structure on the nail, which is what makes it stronger. You can wear it clear or with colour on top.
Is builder gel bad for your nails?
No, when it is put on and taken off properly. The damage people describe comes from peeling it off, or from filing the natural nail too thin. Kept up every few weeks, builder gel protects a weak nail while it grows.
Can I have colour or a French tip on builder gel?
Yes. Wear it clear or nude for a natural look, or with gel colour or a French tip on top.
